U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justices Archive, 3 Pcs: Morrison Waite, Charles Evans Hughes & Harlan Fiske Stone

A small lot of material related to three Chief Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court: Morrison R. Waite (1816-1888), Charles Evans Hughes (1862-1948), and Harlan Fiske Stone (1872-1946). The lot is comprised of three autograph letters signed by the respective judges; three engraved plaques with biographical details; and two images on stock cards.

1. 4pp autograph letter signed by Morrison R. Waite as "M.R. Waite" on the last page. Written in "Maumee City," Ohio on July 28, 1846 on pale blue bifold paper. With outstanding and copious legal content. Expected paper folds. Some ink bleed-through, else very good to near fine. 7.75" x 9.75."

Morrison R. Waite, in 1846 a young, successful lawyer, served as 7th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court between 1874-1888.

2. 1p typed letter signed by Charles Evans Hughes as "Charles E. Hughes" at lower left. Written in Washington, D.C. on September 11, 1924. On "Department of State / Washington" letterhead. Hughes introduces state department employees to their newest colleague. Expected light folds, minor mat burn, and an isolated chip along the left edge, else near fine. 8" x 10.5."

Charles Evans Hughes served as U.S. Secretary of State between 1921-1925, and as 11th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court between 1930-1941.

3. A 2pp autograph letter signed by Harlan Fiske Stone as "Harlan F Stone" on the second page. Written on December 30, 1936 at Cottage 71, The Cloister Resort, Sea Island, Georgia on both sides of hotel stationery. Stone discusses a variety of topics including his health. Light paper folds and a few corner wrinkles, else near fine. 7.25" x 10.5."

Harlan Fiske Stone served as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court between 1925-1941, and as 12th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court between 1941-1946.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice, unless you inform us otherwise, immediately upon your receipt of invoice***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
