Robert Oswald Presented Copy of his Brother's Biography Dedicated to Important JFK Collector

A first edition hardcover copy of "Lee: A Portrait of Lee Harvey Oswald by His Brother," dedicated by Robert Oswald (1934-2017), the older brother and co-author of the book, to Father Ronald Hoskins (1949-2020), the noted assassinologist and collector of John F. Kennedy memorabilia. The dedicatory message within the book is dated May 8, 2004. Accompanied by a voided check engrossed by Hoskins dated April 9, 2004 with Oswald's name in the payee line, and an ALS from Robert Oswald to Hoskins, enclosing the check. Provenance: From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist.

The lot is comprised of:

1. Robert Oswald signed first edition copy of the book.
Robert Oswald reflected on the life of his tragic younger brother Lee Harvey Oswald (1939-1963) in "Lee: A Portrait of Lee Harvey Oswald by His Brother," with Myrick and Barbara Land (New York: Coward-McCann, Inc., 1967). The book has the publisher's original gilt-embossed black cloth boards and dust jacket. A former owner's ex-libris label ("Jane P.R. Lynch") is adhered to the front pastedown endpaper. Robert Oswald later signed and inscribed a dedication message on the front endpaper as: "May 8, 2004 / To: / Ron Hoskins / Thank you for your / interest and for your kindest [sic]. / Sincerely / Robert L. Oswald." Illustrated with many wonderful black and white photographs. The inner pages are clean and bright. Minor wear to the jacket spine and corners, else near fine. 246pp. 5.875" x 8.5" x 1.125."

2. A check engrossed by Ronald Hoskins.
Hoskins's personal bank check # 1704 was dated April 9, 2004 and made out to "Robert L. Oswald" in the amount of $25 with "Lee" cited in the memo section. Signed as "RE Hoskins" on the signature line. The check was later voided.

3. Robert L. Oswald ALS.
1p, measuring 8.5" x 11", no place, dated May 8, 2004. A handwritten letter, addressed to Ron Hoskins, thanking him for sending him a copy of "America's Most Historic Highway: Market Street, Philadelphia." Signed twice, as "Robert L. Oswald" and "RLO." A postscript reads: "Enclosed please find your check - thanks but the 'book' on Philadelphia was more than enough." With light creasing and flattened folds. Bold signatures.
