Gagosian - Steidl, New York & Gottingen, Germany, 2009. 228pp, and 55 Black and White photographic illustrations. 12.8" x 17.5". Text in English. Designed by Ed Ruscha. Ed Ruscha's personal affinity with Jack Kerouac's seminal novel "On the Road" has been wonderfully resolved in this sumptuous limited edition volume. A lavish reworking of Kerouac's magnum opus. Printed as a limited edition in only 350 copies with only 230 copies for commerce. This copy was gifted to the Kerouac estate/John Sampas executor and is #41 of 350. The estate authorized Ed Ruscha and Gagosian to make the book in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of On The Road in 2008. SIGNED AND DATED "Ed Ruscha 2009" in pencil on the rear colophon.

Bound in sensual full grey leather with the title silk screened using Kerouac's handwriting on the front cover and spine. The book is housed in a matching grey leather slipcase. Photos on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper tipped-in by hand.

Slight toning to the grey covers, else near fine. Scarce few other examples that have come to sale are priced between $8800 and $16,000- and unlike the copy offered here, none of the few others were estate owned.

Provenance: The piece will be accompanied by an estate certification signed by John Shen-Sampas, executor of the Kerouac Estate. John Shen-Sampas is the son of John Sampas, who was the brother-in-law of Jack Kerouac, and the brother of Stella Kerouac, Jack's wife
