Description:

Marilyn Monroe SP, PSA/DNA Slabbed & Graded NM 7 - One of the Best We've Ever Seen!

A publicity photo from 20th Century Fox's "How to Marry a Millionaire" depicting Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962), ca. 1952-54, inscribed and signed by her as "To Jerry, / It's a pleasure / to know you - / Marilyn Monroe" along the left side. The original glossy black and white print is PSA/DNA encapsulated, and Monroe's handwriting is graded NM 7. Bold and large penmanship. The photo shows some isolated surface loss and mounting traces at the four corners, and expected wrinkles. A minor closed tear appears at lower left, nowhere near the inscription. Uneven toning verso. The photo measures 8.125" x 10" while the slab measures 9.625" x 13.125". Scarce.

The photo dedicatee, Jerry Gotham, would work with Monroe on the set of the 20th Century Fox musical comedy "There's No Business Like Show Business" in 1954.

This image of Monroe in a black lace negligee comes from her role as the near-sighted Pola in "How to Marry a Millionaire". Monroe was actually photographed in a series, modifying her facial expression and body posture, but wearing the same provocative outfit. Pin-up style publicity did not damage Monroe's nascent acting career, but only enhanced it, as Hollywood studios like Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and 20th Century Fox capitalized on her already established blonde bombshell image. Monroe had been nominated "Miss Cheesecake 1951" by the army newspaper "Stars and Stripes" just a few years earlier, and had mass audience appeal.
