The golden yellow check with basket weave pattern is also stamped “Carters Warehouse, Plains, Georgia” above Carter’s signature. Endorsed verso, and stamped recto and verso. This 1960 check for “Fuel” dates from future president Jimmy Carter’s days as a peanut farmer on his family’s farm in southwestern Georgia. During the decade that he managed the business, Carter struggled to modernize and expand its infrastructure in drought conditions. Carter transitioned from agriculture to politics in 1963, when he successfully ran for the Georgia Senate. Then came his election as 76th Governor of Georgia and finally the White House.
