JFK and Governor Carvel Framed Display, Signed Photo, TLS, and RSVP
Archive
An attractively framed presentation of three documents related to John F. Kennedy and Delaware Governor Elbert Carvel, two of which are signed. Comprised of a typed RSVP on White House stationery, a signed photograph, and a typed letter signed. Signature on the letter is possibly secretarial and sold as such but it does indeed help to authenticate the photo. Matted and framed to the overall size of 37" x 21". The RSVP and typed letter signed have expected mail folds, and there is a vertical crease to the typed letter. Toning to the photo mount.

Includes:
1. Typed RSVP. Measuring 5.25" x 8.25" (sight), Washington, D.C., dated ca. March 27, 1962. President and Mrs. Kennedy send their regrets for an invitation to attend the Dover Day Reception held by Governor Carvel and his wife. Accompanied by the original envelope (unframed) which is postmarked March 27, 1962.
2. Signed Photograph. Measuring 7.5" x 9.25" and mounted to 9.75" x 12.75" (sight), N.p., n.d. A portrait photograph of Senator John F. Kennedy taken after being nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate in August of 1960. Signed and inscribed on the lower mount, "To Governor Elbert Carvel - with highest esteem and every good wish. John F Kennedy."
3. Typed Letter Signed. Measuring 7.5" x 10", Washington, D.C., dated September 18, 1956. Signed "John Kennedy" and addressed to Elbert Carvel. Kennedy thanks Carvel for his support at the Chicago Convention and expresses his hope to visit Delaware in the near future.

Elbert "Bert" Carvel (1910-2005) was an American businessman and politician who served as the 12th Lieutenant Governor of Delaware and two non-consecutive terms as the Governor of Delaware. As only the second Democrat elected governor in 48 years, he was also the first Democrat ever to win two terms. He was opposed to capital punishment and was an early and persistent leader for civil rights legislation in a still politically conservative Delaware.
