James Garfield 2x Signed ALS PSA NM-MT 8. "The Speaker Question Will Have Been Decided The Sat. Evening Before."

1p (5" x 7.75”) ALS written to a General by the future President Garfield and signed "J.A. Garfield" and "J.A.G." Garfield writes to the General urging him to go to Columbus for the New Year and states "The Speaker Question Will Have Been Decided The Sat. Evening Before." Flattened folds from mailing, uneven paper remnants on left, likely from being removed from a notebook and dealers notes in pencil. Authenticated and graded NM-MT 8 by PSA/DNA. Encapsulated to a size of 9.75" x 13.25".

The letter reads: 

"I want you to go to Columbus Jan 1st. The Speaker question will have been decided the Sat. Evening before.

"You must write me so that I will hear at Hiram--on the Saturday before New Years--any fact pertaining to the canvas.

"God bless you my Dear friend and make you successful. I shall do all in my power to help you."

Postscript on verso reads:

"Maj[or David Gaskill] Swaim, my old staff officer who goes with me tonight, is a cousin of [Judge N.D.?] Tibbals of Akron. He has written him urging him to go for you.

J.A.G"

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
