Hiroshima & Nagasaki Atomic Bomb 45th Anniversary Postal Cover Signed by 3 "Enola Gay" & "Bockscar" Crew Members, PSA/DNA Slabbed & Graded Gem Mint 10!

A 45th Anniversary postal cover signed by three crew members of "Enola Gay" and "Bockscar," the two U.S. Air Force B-29 bombers which dropped atomic bombs over Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945 and Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945. Signed in August 1990 at a peace memorial in Wendover, Utah. The envelope showing a photograph of the 10-person crew of the "Bockscar" at left is headlined: "War ends with Atomic Bomb / Bock's Car - 1945 / Crew." (The name of the aircraft is widely spelled as both "Bockscar" and "Bock's Car.") Bearing a hand stamp in red ink at right reading in part "A Celebration for World Peace / August 06, 1990 / Wendover, Utah 84083." PSA/DNA encapsulated and graded Gem Mint 10. The envelope measures 6.375" x 3.625" while the slab measures 9.5" x 4.5" overall.

The signers include:

- Staff Sergeant Raymond C. Gallagher (died 1999), "Bockscar" gunner and assistant flight engineer, signed as "Sgt. Ray Gallagher" in black pen at top

- Staff Sergeant George R. Caron (1919-1995), "Enola Gay" tail gunner, signed as "George R. Caron" in black pen second from the top

- Major Thomas Ferebee (1918-2000), "Enola Gay" bombardier, signed as "Tom Ferebee" in blue pen at bottom

Just three days after "Enola Gay" crew members dropped the atomic bomb "Little Boy" over Hiroshima, "Bockscar" crew members dropped the atomic bomb "Fat Man" over Nagasaki. It's estimated that approximately 120,000 Japanese were killed outright in the two explosions, not counting subsequent deaths from radiation. The Empire of Japan announced its surrender on August 15, 1945, less than ten days after the first attack.
