Early Richard Nixon Campaign Pinbacks & Memorabilia, 90+ Pcs

A comprehensive collection of over 90 pieces of campaign memorabilia relating to the early political career of Richard Nixon and/or the Republican Party, ca. 1940-1960, including several unusual and highly collectible items. Pieces include pinback buttons and jugates, flashers, lapel pins, and campaign button tabs. Displayed in an aesthetically pleasing montage on a black felt-covered mat measuring 24.375" x 16.5". The lot comes with an optional wooden and glass showcase behind which the mat was originally displayed. There are many gems in this completely unpicked collection waiting to be discovered! Provenance: From the lifelong collection of a Greenwich, Connecticut gentleman.

This lot underscores the complexity of the American political experience, and no one better exemplifies the "win some, lose some" political reality than Richard Nixon. His career was truly a mixed bag. On the side of success, Nixon won two presidential elections, served as a two-term vice president, and served in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. On the side of failure, Nixon was impeached, lost the 1960 presidential election, and also failed to secure the 1962 California gubernatorial race. Campaign memorabilia from Nixon's early political career represented special interest groups, such as women, or "Nixon Gals"; young people; veterans; taxpayers; Democrats; Chinese language constituents; and Virginians. Expected wear throughout commensurate with age including isolated fading or surface scratches, else near fine.

Candidates whose images or names are featured include:

- Richard Nixon & Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. (1960)

- Pat Nixon (1960)

- John F. Kennedy (1960) (not mentioned by name specifically, but referred to as "the boy" in the "Don't Send a Boy--" button)

A preliminary examination revealed the following highlights:

- "Richard Nixon, Man of Steel" button sold for $255 in 2020

- "Richard Nixon, Match Him" button sold for $250 in 2011

- "Nixon / Lodge / Press" button sold for $179 in 2019

- "The Winning Team, Nixon and Lodge" button sold for $28 in 2016

**PLEASE NOTE: This lot will require third party shipping due to the delicate nature of how the buttons are mounted.
