Dr. Seuss Original Drawing with Impeccable Provenance, Scarce Presentation Piece

Spectacular drawing rendered by Dr. Seuss in colored pencils, with ink titles, 15" X 12", adhered to board and matted with a 3" beige mat to a completed size of 20.5" x 17.5". The artwork depicts a colorful pair of winged Griffins, each carrying a suitcase in their talons, soaring through the air in a classic Seussian style. Below the soaring Griffins Dr. Seuss sketched the ocean below and clouds above. The piece is an adorable play on words as it was drawn by Dr. Seuss and presented to the Griffin family.

This piece was gifted to the Griffin family by Dr. Seuss. Paul Griffin's father and Dr. Seuss were classmates at Dartmouth, with numerous correspondences extent between Paul, Dr. Seuss and Claudia Prescott, Dr. Seuss's secretary. The verso of this piece includes a sheet of signed and autographed Dr. Seuss stationary "Hi Paul / It was a pleasure! / All the best always / to ALL GRIFFINS! / Ted".

An exceptionally stunning piece by Dr. Seuss with highly documented provenance. Original full color drawings by Dr. Seuss are exceedingly scarce.

** Most all of original artwork by Dr. Seuss is held in museums leaving very little of his original artwork available for private purchase, and almost none available with quality provenance.
