Clinton and Ford TLSs Re: State Gov't and Vietnam

CLINTON, Bill. Typed Letter Signed, “Bill Clinton”, as governor, 1p, on State of Arkansas letterhead, 8.5” x 11”, Little Rock, September 14, 1989. To D. L. Moffat, in part, "Thank you for your letter to me concerning various issues in the operation of state government. I have taken the liberty of forwarding several of your questions and ideas to members of my staff for further review. You are correct that we do not need to hide our heads in the sand but to share thoughts and try to accomplish what is necessary to make our state competitive in this highly technological era." Flattened folds, else Fine condition.

FORD, Gerald. Typed Letter Signed, “Gerald Ford”, 1p, on his personal letterhead, 6.25” x 8.5”, Rancho Mirage, May 1, 1995. To Dr. Richard Long of the US Department of Labor, in part, "My views today are the same as when I served in the House, as Vice President and President. The United State’s goal was right - a non-communist Vietnam. I had some serious reservations about military policy during the Johnson Administration, which I publicly expressed. Secretary of Defense McNamara, at least annually, testified before the Defense Appropriation subcommittee of which I was a member (1953–1964). This subcommittee of House Appropriations Committee handled all funding, personnel and military policy of the Pentagon. Secretary of Defense McNamara always testified in favor of the Vietnam policies and decisions of Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. I am surprised by his comments in his new book." Stamped “received / 5-4-95” at top right. Staple holes at top left corner, else Fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope bearing a preprinted free frank.
