Description:

Buzz Aldrin Signed & Inscribed "Moonboot" Lunar Footprint Fine Art Giclée On Canvas

A fine art giclée on canvas depicting the footprint of Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin (born 1930) as photographed by him on July 20, 1969. The giclée print is signed and inscribed by Aldrin in blue pen, as "Buzz Aldrin / Apollo XI July 20, 1969" near the center. Printed in black and white on canvas, mounted on stretchers but currently unframed. Near fine. The giclée measures 20" x 24" x 1.5." Accompanied by a November 2017 sales receipt from Heritage Auctions.

Buzz Aldrin served as the Lunar Module Pilot during the July 16-July 24, 1969 Apollo 11 mission, alongside Commander Neil Armstrong and Command Module Pilot Michael Collins. Armstrong and Aldrin were the first humans to step onto the gray and granular lunar surface on July 20, 1969. Aldrin photographed the impression of his space boot to study the effects of pressure on a gravity-free surface. In theory, since the moon is windless, the footprints should remain preserved there forever.

While on the moon, Armstrong and Aldrin took photographs, placed a TV camera, collected geological samples, set up seismic and laser experiments, and even received a celebratory phone call from President Nixon.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
