Benjamin Disraeli probably knew Lady Cornelia Henrietta Maria Spencer-Churchill Guest (1847-1927) through her social connections. Lady Cornelia Guest was the older sister of Conservative politician Lord Randolph Churchill, and the aunt of future Prime Minister Winston Churchill. She married Sir Ivor Bertie Guest, the heir to a Welsh ironworks fortune, in 1868. While some considered the match unfortunate in that a duke's daughter was marrying a tradesman's son, the Guests did not; it did not impact either the couple's political aspirations or their prolific social calendar. Lord and Lady Guest hosted royalty, aristocracy, politicians, and socialites at their lavish estate Canford Manor, near Poole in southwestern England.

Sir Ivor Bertie Guest attempted to enter the political ring after 1874 as a Conservative member of the House of Commons. At Disraeli's prompting, Guest was granted a baronetcy in 1880 and later sat in the House of Lords as a Liberal. Lord and Lady Guest contributed generously to their local community. Their charitable works included a school, hospital, public park, and tenant housing.

A major influencer of Victorian politics, Disraeli led the Conservative Party during two terms as Prime Minister, between February-December 1868, and between 1874-1880.
