Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) first held the office of Prime Minister in February 1868. His tenure was to be short lived, however, as he was voted out in December of the same year. He then served as Leader of the Opposition until William E. Gladstone called for a general election in January 1874 and Disraeli won with a Conservative majority, the first victory for the party since 1841.
