Description:

Babe Ruth First Edition Biography Signed Just Months Before His Death, Excellent Signature

A signed First Edition copy of "The Babe Ruth Story" by Babe Ruth, as told to Bob Considine. New York: E.P. Dutton & Co., Inc., 1948. 250pp, small octavo. Signed on the half-title page "Babe Ruth" in blue ink. With 49 black and white photographs throughout. Red cloth-covered boards with black text at the spine and on the front cover. Illustrated end boards. With the original paper dustjacket. Rubbing to the binding corners and spine edges. Some wear, chipping, and small tears to the dust jacket edges. Sunning to jacket spine, else an attractive copy. Sound binding. The book is accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA as well as Beckett Authentication Services.

Babe Ruth (1895-1948) left for Florida in February 1948 and returned after six weeks in order to attend a signing party for his book. It is likely the book was signed during this event, as over the next months his health greatly deteriorated and he retreated from social events. Ruth would die soon after at the age of 53 on August 16, 1948 when he lost his battle with cancer. Despite last playing nearly 75 years ago, Babe is still widely considered the greatest player in Major League Baseball history.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
