On the tenth page, Knight has given her an "A" with the comment "Perceptive, well focused / & sensitively done."

"Maggie Cassidy" tells the story of a teenage boy growing up in Lowell, Massachusetts. The largely autobiographical novel chronicles the love story of Jack Dulouz and Maggie Cassidy (Jack Kerouac and Mary Carney). "Maggie Cassidy," written in 1953, was published in 1959, two years after the success of "On the Road."

"Pic" was Jack Kerouac's last novel. It was published in 1971, two years after his death. It's the story of a 10-year-old North Carolina boy named Pictorial Review Johnson who is being raised by his grandfather. Told from Pic's point of view, the first chapter is titled "Me and Grandpa."

In this letter, reacting very favorably to a student's critique of one of his works, Kerouac writes that, in addition to the student's American Literature professor giving her an "A," Grandpa, a character in his yet to be published book, also gives her an "A."
