William McKinley 2x Signed Canton Building Association Certificate

A document 2x signed by William McKinley (1843-1901), future 25th U.S. President then in his capacity as Secretary of the Canton Building Association, as "Wm McKinley Jr" at lower left recto, and as "Wm McKinley Jr / Secy" verso. "The Canton Building Association, No. 1" certificate, No. 37, signed at Canton, Ohio on February 19, 1869, certified that Godfrey Bergmyer had purchased five $200 shares of the company's capital stock. Countersigned by company president W.W. Clark. Embossed with a "Canton Building Association No. 1 / Incor. Jan. 16, 1869" seal at lower left, and with a revenue stamp affixed at left. Docketed and endorsed verso. Expected folds and a few wrinkled or darkened edges. Light overall toning and isolated ink bleed-through, else near fine. 11.75" x 7.25." Accompanied by a handsome engraving of McKinley after H.B. Halls Sons, featuring McKinley's facsimile signature at bottom.

William McKinley served as secretary of the Canton Building Association, a cooperative mortgage lending credit agency incorporated in January 1869. After passing the Ohio bar examination in 1867, McKinley practiced in partnership with another lawyer in Canton, the seat of Stark County, Ohio. In 1869, McKinley became prosecuting attorney of Stark County after a surprise election upset.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses who proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice, unless you inform us otherwise, immediately upon your receipt of invoice***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
