Two Land Grants Issued to Rev War Veteran and Senator James Hillhouse


General Orders issued by the State of Connecticut, 1p, October 12, 1816, postmarked Chelsea Landing. A court martial report signed by Adjutant General Ebenezer Huntington and addressed to Brigadier General Howe, 2nd Brigade. The document reports on a court martial held on August 8, 1815, "for the trial of Ansel Southworth Ensign of the late eighth now seventh company in the seventh regiment of Infantry under arrest upon seven distinct charges of misbehaviour [sic] and unofficer like conduct. The courte on a full hearing of the case found the accused Not Guilty of the first, second, fourth, fifth and seventh charges, but pronounced him Guilty of the third and sixth charges in arrest and therefore sentence him to be Cashiered with disability of holding any military office in this state..."

Ebenezer Huntington (1754-1834) served in the colonial army, first joining Col. Samuel Wyllis' regiment as a lieutenant. He rose through the ranks and ultimately served as adjutant general under General Heath and was a major in Col. Webb's regiment. He commanded a battalion at the Battle of Yorktown, and ended the war as an aide to General Lincoln. After the war, George Washington promoted him to brigadier general.

Flattened mail folds, with light toning and foxing. Paper loss at the edges, with larger areas repaired with paper patches. Paper loss affects some of the text.

We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice, unless you inform us otherwise, immediately upon your receipt of invoice***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
