In August 1924, Thomas A. Edison was on a motoring trip with boon companions Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone in northern New England. Edison and Ford undertook annual road trips between 1914 - 1924, with naturalist John Burroughs and tire manufacturer Harvey Firestone occasionally joining them. Edison, Ford, and Firestone, along with their respective families, stayed at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts (recently purchased by Ford) before making their way further north en route to their final destination of Montreal. On August 19, 1924, the trio joined President Calvin Coolidge and the president's father John Coolidge on their ancestral maple sugaring farm in Plymouth, Vermont.
