Description:

Ronald Reagan Wonderful Personal ALS "...thank you for the pillow slips"

1p, measuring 8.25" x 10.5" (sight), Hollywood, California, dated October 22, [no year]. Written on personal stationery and signed at the conclusion, "Ronald." Addressed to a recipient only identified as "Lou", possibly biographer and senior White House correspondent of the Washington Post, Lou Cannon. A brief letter, thanking Lou for sending him and Nancy a gift. It reads in full:

"Just a hasty line before I have to run to a meeting. I want to thank you for the pillow slips. They are really beautiful and Nancy & I are crazy about them. We can see just how much work went into them and you shouldn't have done it, but both of us are glad you did - they are so wonderful. I'm glad you got to see the picture and wish it could have been even better. Nancy sends her thanks and best regards as do I. You were very kind to think of us and we are very grateful." The letter has been matted and framed with a small plaque and a photograph of Ronald and Nancy, measuring 21" x 16.5" overall. The letter has flattened mail folds.

Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) had been a radio and film star before becoming president. He moved to California in 1937 and appeared in his first starring role in "Love Is on the Air". Just two years later, Reagan had already appeared in nineteen films. He also enlisted in the Army Reserve and served in a limited capacity during WWII (due to his poor eyesight he did not travel overseas). Reagan made his way into politics in the early 60s and became Governor of California in 1967. He ran for president in 1976 and was unsuccessful, but his campaign in 1980 saw him come out on top. Reagan served two terms as president and is viewed by many as one of the country's best presidents.
