Description:

Richard Nixon Re-Election Campaign Pinbacks & Memorabilia, 75+ Pcs

An outstanding collection of over 75 pieces of campaign memorabilia relating to Richard Nixon's 1972 presidential re-election campaign. Pieces include pinback buttons and jugates, flashers, coattail buttons, lapel pins, and campaign button tabs. Displayed in an aesthetically pleasing montage on a black felt-covered mat measuring 24.375" x 16.5". The lot comes with an optional wooden and glass showcase behind which the mat was originally displayed. There are many gems in this completely unpicked collection waiting to be discovered! Provenance: From the lifelong collection of a Greenwich, Connecticut gentleman.

Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew were successfully reelected in 1972; little did supporters know that their second term would be so short or riddled by controversy. Agnew resigned in October 1973 after pleading no contest to a single felony charge of tax evasion. The Watergate scandal led to Nixon's impeachment and resignation in August 1974. 1972 re-election campaign memorabilia represented special interest groups, such as voters from Westchester, New York; women; teenaged Republicans; Spanish speaking constituents; "Southern Power" advocates; members of the CLIRR (unknown affiliation); and "Nixonaires." Expected wear throughout commensurate with age including isolated fading, else near fine.

Candidates whose images or names are featured include:

- Richard Nixon & Spiro Agnew (1972) (the pair had also been running mates in 1968)

- John G. Tower for U.S. Senator from Texas (1972)

- Henry C. Grover for Governor of Texas (1972)

- Richard B. Ogilvie for Governor of Illinois (1972)

A preliminary examination revealed the following highlights:

- "Westchester for Nixon" button sold for $125 in 2018

- "Nixon / Ogilvie / Republican" button sold for $27 in 2007

- "Pachyderm power" button sold for $29 in 2019

**PLEASE NOTE: This lot will require third party shipping due to the delicate nature of how the buttons are mounted.
