Victoria, in full, Alexandrina Victoria, (May 24, 1819 - January 22, 1901) Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1837–1901) and Empress of India (1876–1901). Known as the Victorian era, her reign of 63 years and seven months was longer than that of any of her predecessors.  Her great-great-granddaugther, England's current Queen Elizabeth II, surpassed Victoria's record in September 2015.

Victoria was the daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn (the fourth son of King George III), and Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. After both the Duke and his father died in 1820, she was raised under close supervision by her mother and her comptroller, John Conroy. She inherited the throne at age 18, after her father's three elder brothers died without surviving legitimate issue. Though a constitutional monarch, privately, Victoria attempted to influence government policy and ministerial appointments; publicly, she became a national icon who was identified with strict standards of personal morality.

Thomas Fitnam (ca.1803-1876) of Washington, DC.  Catholic, born in Ireland, naturalized U.S. citizen; U.S. Consul in Gaspé, 1861-67; Saint Helena, as of 1868-76. Died in St. Helena, October 22, 1876 (age about 73 years). Interment at St. Paul's Cemetery, near Jamestown, St. Helena.

During her reign the British monarchy took on its modern ceremonial character. She and her husband, Prince Consort Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, had nine children, through whose marriages were descended many of the royal families of Europe.
