Porfirio Diaz Signed Mining Concession

3pp document signed by 29th President of Mexico Porfirio Diaz (1830-1915) as "Porfirio Diaz" at the center of the second page. Signed at the Palace of the Federal Government in Mexico on November 6, 1907. The partly printed and partly handwritten document is signed by numerous official signatories in addition to Diaz. Bearing several cancelled revenue stamps on the first page. Expected folds including some affecting the underline under Diaz's signature. Overall light toning, and hole-punched at left, else near fine. A few tiny closed tears along folds mentioned just for accuracy. 11.375" x 17".

An untranslated signed document which should yield fascinating discoveries when fully translated!

Here are the basic facts: mining concession number 38011 granted 6 hectares of land to Martin Arredondo, a banker and wine-grower, to be used in mining operations at Sierra de San Marco, in the municipality of Cuatro Cienégas, in the state of Coahuila, Mexico, located in northern Mexico approximately 200 miles southwest of modern day Laredo, Texas. Arredondo's "gold and silver mine [was] called 'Second Expansion of the Hill.'"

Porfirio Diaz's seven presidential terms, undertaken almost uninterruptedly between 1877 and his ouster and exile in 1911, is referred to as the Porfiriato. Diaz's leadership prioritized business and financial interests over egalitarian or humanitarian ones. He fostered a Mexican economy favoring "Cientificos", or technocrats, and also investors.
