Description:

Outstanding JFK Limited Edition Scrapbook of Candid Photographs, By Frank Allen with Copies of Correspondence

Large scrapbook measuring 12.5" x 13", with 92 album pages, no place, c. 1959-1965. Housed in a 3-ring binder, the scrapbook contains 115 original color photographs of the Kennedys and their associates, with approximately 45 photocopies of Orofino's personal correspondence with Kennedy, his wife, and his staff. Most photographs measure 5" x 3.5" and are accompanied by a brief handwritten description by Orofino. A rare and candid look into the Kennedy campaign and his life as President. Also includes other campaign ephemera and two pages of sketches of Kennedy by Frank. Light edge toning to photographs and album pages. Minor warping to some pages. Else very fine. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist.

Orofino wrote a preface for the album, which reads in part: "Between the covers of this book are bound one man's remembrances of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the late President of the United States. For me, the creation and presentation of this volume represents a singular labor of love and achievement. It is dedicated to a man of unmatched genius whom I was privileged to know before, during and after his historic campaign. Through the camera's unerring eye, those many exciting and wonderfully unforgettable hours we spent working together are vividly recalled and indelibly recorded…With apologies for my lack of professional experience, but with great pride in the friendship which I was indeed fortunate to share, I offer this private limited edition so that those moments captured and portrayed herein will not be lost, but rather, shared by those who knew and loved this man as I did and so too perhaps those generations to come…"

Frank Allen Orofino (1910-2000), known as "Frank Allen" professionally, was the founder of a New York medical supply firm, Allen Dental-Medical Development Corp., and key public relations volunteer for Kennedy's successful 1960 presidential campaign. He also designed and produced numerous campaign memorabilia, including P.T. Boat tie clips, campaign buttons, posters, bumper stickers, pens and pencils, hats, sponges, and even bottles of Jackie's perfume. Following the death of John F. Kennedy, Orofino created around 51 identical copies of these scrapbooks, starting in 1966, titled "The Legend of John Fitzgerald Kennedy", and distributed them to Kennedy family members and associates, as well as heads of state and celebrities such as Queen Elizabeth and Frank Sinatra. This particular album, marked Vol. 10, was presented to Senator Abraham Ribicoff of Connecticut.
