Description:

Mrs. M.L. King Typed Letter Signed with Newsletter

Letter is 1p, 8.5" x 11", April 15, 1983. Signed "Coretta" by Mrs. King. Typed on Martin Luther King, Jr. Center stationery and addressed to Stoney Cooks of Young Ideas, Inc. In the letter, Coretta thanks Cooks for his donation of $257.50 and writes, "The King Center is the official National Memorial established to carry on Martin's important work, and the days and years ahead offer all of us great challenge and opportunities to make his Dream a reality. The Fifty-fourth Birthday Observance was an outstanding success. Never have we achieved a higher level of involvement nor have we ever reached so many friends and supporters from across the nation. I am proud that you are a part of The King Center family..." She has also scratched out "Mr. Cooks" at the salutation and written in "Stoney."

Mrs. King also enclosed a copy of the King Center's newsletter, 6pp, which has been included with this letter. The January 1983 issue has articles on "Economic Challenges of the Eighties", King Center events and updates, and a piece on Coretta King's visit to India.

Flattened mail folds to all, with light edge. Staple holds letter and newsletter together at the top left corner.
