Lyndon B. Johnson & Anti-Goldwater Campaign Pinbacks & Memorabilia, 55+ Pcs

A choice collection of over 55 pieces of campaign memorabilia relating to the 1964 presidential race between Democratic Party nominee Lyndon B. Johnson and Republican Party challenger Barry Goldwater. Pieces include pinback buttons and jugates, flashers, coattail buttons, and campaign button tabs. Displayed in an aesthetically pleasing montage on a black felt-covered mat measuring 24.375" x 16.5". The lot comes with an optional wooden and glass showcase behind which the mat was originally displayed. There are many gems in this completely unpicked collection waiting to be discovered! Provenance: From the lifelong collection of a Greenwich, Connecticut gentleman.

Numerous special interest groups supporting LBJ are represented, including women; young citizens; educators; scientists; engineers; physicians; California professors; members of the USWA (United Steel Workers of America); and maverick Republicans and Independents. In addition, some pieces are tied to local or state elections in New York, Maryland, Michigan, and Vermont. The most puzzling button displays a pair of chemical formulas, whose translation roughly equates to "Uric Acid on Gold Water." Expected wear throughout commensurate with age, else near fine.

Candidates whose images or names are featured include:

- Lyndon B. Johnson & Hubert Humphrey (1964)

- Barry Goldwater (1964)

- Kenneth Keating, a vociferously anti-Goldwater Republican, for U.S. Senator from New York

- Joseph Tydings for U.S. Senator from Maryland (1964)

- Royce Hanson and Carlton R. Sickles for U.S. Congressmen from Maryland (1964)

- Neil Staebler for Governor of Michigan (1964)

- Philip A. Hart for U.S. Senator from Michigan (1964)

- Philip Hoff for Governor of Vermont (1964)

A preliminary examination revealed the following highlights:

- "Essex County Democrats for Johnson / New Jersey" button sold for $103 in 2019

- "Johnson and Hoff" button sold for $66 in 2013

- "Go with Goldwater" mushroom cloud button, similar one sold for $632 in 2019
