Translated:

"Very willingly, Monsieur, will I address the lines which your sympathetic letter demands, praying that you excuse me if I haven't responded to you earlier.

Your well devoted

Jules Verne

March 88."

Verne may have been a little preoccupied in 1888. In that year, he entered French politics by becoming town councilor of Amiens in northern-central France. His latest adventure novel was also published; "Two Years' Vacation" recounts the story of a group of boys shipwrecked on a South Pacific Island. During Verne's prolific 40+-year-long literary career, he essentially invented the new sub-genre of science fiction. "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (1864), "From the Earth to the Moon" (1865), "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" (1870), and "Around the World in Eighty Days" (1872) are some of his most popular works.
