Description:

John Kennedy Speech and Program for the Dallas Events That Never Happened

A large brochure on card stock "WE ARE...THE WATCHMAN ON THE WALLS OF FREEDOM"  with the text of the speech President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was scheduled to deliver in the Trade Mart in Dallas, Texas, at noon on November 22, 1963. 8.5" x 14"

And the "TEXAS WELCOME DINNER" Program for the November 22, 1963 event to be scheduled at the Municipal Auditorium, Austin, Texas 8.5" x 14" (folded)

One thousand days in office, and Kennedy was worried that the backlash from the Civil Rights issue would cost him the South. He would need Texas again, absolutely, and by more than the 46,000 vote margin he’d squeaked by with in ’60.  A trip was called for, to meet with rich Texan donors, and straighten out, if he could, the conservative-liberal split in the state’s Democratic Party. The plan was to fly to Texas, make a half dozen appearances, and end the visit, on the night of November 22nd, at a $100 a plate dinner for the State Democratic Executive Committee.

On the afternoon of the 22nd, at approximately half past noon, as President Kennedy rode in an open limousine in Dallas, his life was taken and he never made it to the dinner that evening and these scheduled events would never happen.

A rare well-preserved piece of US history.
