Description:

JFK & Family Archive of 20+ Photos, Many Vintage

A sizable archive of photographs, many vintage press photos, depicting 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) and members of his family, ca. 1955-1999. Provenance: From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist.

The 21 photographs present here include four color and seventeen black and white glossy photos, mostly 8" x 10" in size with the smallest measuring 8.5" x 6.75." In remarkably good condition overall, with minor condition issues including isolated toning, discoloration, and closed edge tears. A majority of the photographs are press copies; several are captioned at bottom, and many are either stamped, labeled, or hand-inscribed verso, sometimes with press printing instructions. Press agencies credited with the photography include: Associated Press Wirephotos; United Press International Photos; Wide World Photos; R.L. Knudsen / U.S. Navy; Victor Malafronte Celebrity Photo; Sipa Press; Paschal Michelson Agency, and others.

The photographs feature the following individuals: John F. Kennedy (7); Jacqueline Kennedy (5); Caroline Kennedy (1); John F. Kennedy, Jr. (10); Carolyn Bessette Kennedy (1); Edward Kennedy (1); Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl of Mountbatten (1); General Lyman Lemnitzer (1); Sargent Shriver (1), and others.

Events either depicted or alluded to include: JFK's 1960 presidential campaign; the 1961 National Guard Armory Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C.; the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy; and the funeral of Jacqueline Kennedy.

Other subjects refer to the establishment of the Peace Corps; American relations with India; the JFK Presidential Museum and Library; and the rivalry between JFK's alma mater Harvard University and Columbia!

Please refer to individual catalog photos to see a cross-section of the variety, type, and quality of the photographs in the archive. Featured photos provide us with rare glimpses into the personal lives of the Kennedy family. Among these is a photograph of a 26-year-old Jackie Kennedy walking out of a Boston hospital in crutches following a spirited "touch foot-ball" game with brother-in-law Ted Kennedy; the caption headline reads "Senator's Wife Breaks Ankle Playing Football." More eerie is a June 5, 1968 UPI photo of Jackie rushing to the airport to get to RFK's bedside while RFK was still alive: "…Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, who was critically wounded by an assassin." Nearly half of the photographs in the archive depict John F. Kennedy, Jr. during all phases of maturity, from age 3 to his late 30s.

A true treasure trove of Kennedyiana!
