Description:

Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis Autographed Signed Envelope

Blue envelope with imprint to verso with the address of 1040 Fifth Avenue, New York 10028. Autographed and Signed by Jaqueline Kennedy. The envelope was made out to senior consulting editor Robert Barker who worked for Doubleday likely around the period when Jacqueline worked as an editor. The envelope is signed by Jackie as "J Onassis", and was addressed in her hand "Robert Barker / Doubleday / 245 Park Ave / 43rd floor".  This was likely an interoffice delivery as there is no city, state or zip on the address, but only a reference the floor number. A photocopy of the letter that was once in the envelope will accompany this lot. 6.25" x 4.25", with remnants of tape along the top edge. The envelope has slight sheering to the paper along the lower border, the tape remnants have left a stain along the top edge, none of which affect the signature or the address. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, Assassinologist.

The photocopy letter discusses a "dummy" book which Jacqueline reviewed (A set of bound blank pages used as a model to show the size and general appearance of a book being published) which she notes as "beautiful" and asked to have it bought for her as a Christmas present, adding, "..but I am afraid I am not enough of a masochist to try to sell such an expensive and specialized book today." She also adds "Don't you think it is more of a Harry Abrams books?" At the time, Abrams, formerly Harry N. Abrams, Inc., was an American publisher of art and illustrated books, children's books, and stationery, so Jackie was weighing in on the marketing aspect.

Jackie Kennedy accepted a job as an editor at Viking Press in New York City and later moved to Doubleday as a senior editor. She enjoyed a successful career in publishing until her death on May 19, 1994.
