James "Whitey" Bulger Best Signed Item We've Ever Seen! PSA/DNA Slabbed & Graded NM-MT 8

A PSA/DNA encapsulated postcard fully engrossed by James "Whitey" Bulger (1929-2018), the notorious Boston gangster, and signed by him as "Jim Bulger / 1428" at top recto. Also including 20+ words in Bulger's hand as: "Irish flag / Keith - your friend / Jim Bulger / 1428 / Wise guy cop put his hat on my head just as pic was taken". Graded by PSA/DNA as NM-MT 8. The postcard measures 6" x 4" while the slab measures 10.125" x 6.625".

The front of the postcard shows Bulger's March 16, 1953 Boston mug shot at right, next to an image of a Celtic harp and Bulger's name and Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary Prison identification number, "1428 AZ". An Irish flag is represented verso, as a nod to Bulger's predominately Irish South Boston upbringing.

Bulger was incarcerated at Alcatraz between November 1959 and July 1962. This prison term was not his first-- nor of a particularly long duration--but Bulger recalled his time there as special. Bulger's biographer, Michael Esslinger, quoted Bulger as saying: "Looking back, Alcatraz was pretty good. You may be surprised to find that I look back at Alcatraz with a sense of nostalgia…I'd be in the yard, sitting high up on the bleachers, getting the warm sun, looking out across the Bay, watching the ships and the Golden Gate Bridge."

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
