Jackie & Aristotle Onassis Archive of 50+ Photos, Many Vintage

An extensive archive of photographs, many vintage press photos, depicting former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1929-1994) and members of her family, ca. 1969-1975. Provenance: From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist.

The 53 photographs present here are black and white glossy photos, mostly 9.5" x 7.5" in size with the smallest measuring 4.5" x 7.125." In remarkably good condition overall, with minor condition issues including isolated trimming, wrinkling, or darkened edges. A majority of the photographs are press copies; a few are captioned at bottom, and many are either stamped, labeled, or hand-inscribed verso, sometimes with press printing instructions. Press agencies credited with the photography include: Associated Press Wirephotos; Team International (Paris); Star Agency (Paris & Nice); Asa Press (Paris); Athens Press; and unidentified Greek press agencies whose stamps are in Greek.

The photographs feature the following individuals: Jacqueline Kennedy (5); John F. Kennedy, Jr. (1); Aristotle Onassis (29); Alexander Onassis (6); Christina Onassis (7); Pierre Salinger (1), and others.

Notable events depicted in the archive include the funeral of Aristotle's son, Alexander, who died at age 24 of injuries sustained during a plane crash in January 1973 at an Athens airport. A series of photographs show various Onassis pied-à-terres in Paris or aboard the luxury yacht "Christina" as well as shots of Onassis-frequented restaurants (like Maxim's), Onassis-controlled businesses (like Olympic Airways), and Onassis-owned automobiles, motorcycles, and planes.

Please refer to individual catalog photos to see a cross-section of the variety, type, and quality of the photographs in the archive. Featured photos underscore the wealth, influence, and power of the Onassis dynasty. Jackie officially joined the family after marrying Aristotle in October 1968. Alexander Onassis cynically explained his father's remarriage in the following terms: "My father loved names and Jackie loved money."
