Description:

Jack Kerouac Superb ALS with Robert Burns Content

A handwritten postcard addressed to Kerouac's longtime friend, Ed White who appears in On the Road as "Tim Gray", and signed "Jack" in bottom right corner. Within, Kerouac lightheartedly discusses moving homes in Florida, likely to his St. Petersburg's residence, as well as Scottish Romantic poet Robert Burns (written in text as "Bobby Burns"). The postcard has been stamped from Northport, NY on July 17, 1964 and measures 5.5" x 3.25" overall. Very minor ink smudging with areas of creasing along outside edges, else a near fine example, boldly penned!

Reads in full, with original punctuation maintained:
"Ed- Well, first things first, Sir- moving to Florida for retirement home for my Maw and then be ready in the fall for mountain retreat building- Sir, send copy of Thy Design- will write you extensive letter later- I am presently being rowed up the Thames by our friend from Scotland, who, if a Barbarian be, had better consult Thee, Sir, or try Bobby Burns' Dee
Jack"

Jack seems to poke fun at White, a notable Denver-based architect, requesting him to send "thy design", presumably for renovations Kerouac had asked him to sketch for a cabin retreat he planned to build (see UA78616). Further, "Dee" is possibly a reference to a character in Robert Burns' famous poem Tam o' Shanter (1791), a witch named Nannie Dee who pursues the title character after he loudly comments on her short nightshirt.
