George H.W. Bush Signed White House VP Card
A White House card inscribed with four words and signed by then U.S. Vice President George H.W. Bush (1924-2018) as "Beverly - Warm Best Wishes / George Bush." The hand-inscribed words appear near and around a gilt embossed presidential seal at top, and the calligraphic printed inscription of "The Vice President / of the United States of America." Isolated stains recto and verso, else near fine. 3.875" x 2.25."
Vice President Bush presented this card to Beverly Young, née Angello (born 1956), the second wife of veteran Congressman from Florida Charles W. "Bill" Young (1930-2013). The card, though undated, was dedicated sometime during Bush's two terms as Vice President (1981-1989). It was also probably presented after 1985, the year Bill Young divorced Marian Ford Young, his first wife of 36 years, in order to wed Beverly, his former secretary and longtime mistress.
Bill Young and George H.W. Bush were both influential members of the Republican Party. Young, who served in Congress between 1971-2013, had endorsed Bush during the Republican presidential run-off in 1980.
