Description:

George H.W. Bush Signed Polaroid Photo Depicting FL Congressman & His Ex-Mistress Seated on the Bed in the Lincoln Bedroom!

A Polaroid color photograph taken by, and later presented, signed, and inscribed by 41st U.S. President George H.W. Bush (1924-2018) as "To Beverly + Bill / Love - George Bush / photographer" along the bottom margin. The candid snap shot shows veteran Congressman from Florida Charles W. "Bill" Young (1930-2013) and his second wife Beverly Young, née Angello (born 1956), seated on the bed in the White House Lincoln bedroom. Isolated areas of Bush's signature and handwriting are lightly smeared. Some warping due to age, and minor damage to the top verso. A staple mark is located in the upper left hand corner recto. Else good to very good. 4" x 4."

This photograph, though undated, was almost certainly taken either during Bush's two terms as Vice President (1981-1989) or during his single term as President (1989-1993). More significantly, it was also taken after 1985, the year Bill Young divorced Marian Ford Young, his wife of 36 years, in order to wed Beverly, his former secretary and longtime mistress.

It is unclear why Vice President (or President) Bush took the picture of the couple seated on the bed in the Lincoln Bedroom, though the playful use of the word "Love" in the inscription suggests that it was part of a joke or prank.

Bill Young and George H.W. Bush were both influential members of the Republican Party. Young, who served in Congress between 1971-2013, had endorsed Bush during the Republican presidential run-off in 1980.
