President George H.W. Bush, then eighteen months into his single presidential term, wrote this thank you note to a New Jersey collector of World War II memorabilia named S.W. Bumball. Bush's modest tone belies the fact that he was then president of the United States!
Dear Mr. Bumball,
Perhaps, someday, this note will fit comfortably into your collection. With appreciation for your letter.
George H.W. Bush served as president between 1989-1993. A Navy pilot in World War II, Bush attended Yale University in New Haven, CT on the G.I. Bill. He later embarked on careers in the oil industry and politics.
