Gemini II Crew Member "W. Yuknavich" Hard Hat
Measuring 11" x 8.25" x 5.5", Cape Canaveral, undated Ca. 1965. A fantastic NASA relic, an official Gemini II hard hat used by a ground crew member at Cape Canaveral. The cream-colored hard hat bears the Gemini II mission logo, along with the name "W. Yuknavich" and "Gemini" stenciled in black. The interior of the hat is fitted with a rubber and fabric suspension liner. Expected wear, with one large scratch affecting part of the Gemini decal. Additional chipping, soiling, and scratching consistent with age and use. Interior is well preserved. Slight musty odor can be aired out.
Gemini II was the last unmanned test mission of the Gemini program and was launched on January 19, 1965. The mission paved the way for the first manned mission - Gemini III - which made John Young and Gus Grissom the first Americans to achieve flight in space with two crew members.
