“Free Hearts”, Hand-Embellished Artist Proof 1 of 1 Print by Contemporary Fine Artist Robert Mars

Description:

“Free Hearts”, Hand-Embellished Artist Proof Fine Art Print, 1 of 1 by Robert Mars

Hand-embellished artist proof, 1 of 1, fine art print depicting President John F. Kennedy (1917 – 1963) and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy (1929 – 1994) by American pop artist Robert Mars (born 1959). The brightly colored, multi-layered art piece depicts a posed image of the first couple set against a kaleidoscopic background of geometric patterns and images related to boating and yachts. Signed on the lower left margin in bold silver metallic paint marker, "Robert Mars" and with "A.P." added to the lower right corner. Unframed. Overall measures 18" x 24". Accompanied by a letter of authenticity by publisher House of Roulx.

This 18" x 24" inch print, published by House of Roulx, is printed on Hahnemühle William Turner 310 GSM matte fine art paper. The print is finished with hand-torn deckled edges and features an embossed publishers chop in the lower left corner and authentication stamp on verso. Additional the print features original hand-embellishments by Mars including additional collage and paint accents.

This is a perfect example of Mars's unique style of artwork, blending multiple eras of American culture to create neo-pop inspired by other iconoclastic pop artists like Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg, Mars uses Xerox transfers of iconic images, and then layers them with vintage cut-outs from magazines, newspapers, advertisements, and signs. The layers are embellished with paint and then cemented with resin to produce splashy images with as much panache as Warhol's Marilyn Monroe. The focal points of Mars's artwork are often drawn from postwar American culture. He especially favors celebrities from the 1950s and 1960s, like JFK. Other subjects are objects with talismanic significance, similar to Warhol's Campbell's Soup Can. The execution of Mars's artwork--with its composition of multiple layers--symbolizes the accretion of popular culture; how collectively, we remember individuals and events over time through shifting lenses. In this way, Mars's work is often viewed as highly nostalgic, and a truly refreshing take on Americana.

Mars’s artwork is exhibited worldwide including in museum collections in Munich, Tokyo, Amsterdam, London, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, Paris, Aspen, and Naples. Add this museum-quality Robert Mars piece to your collection today!
