Description:

Frances Cleveland Interesting 3 p. ALS

3pp of a bifolium, measuring 3.75" x 6", Washington, D.C., "Easter Sunday", postmarked April 15, 1895. Signed "Frances F. Cleveland" as First Lady, and written on her personal "Executive Mansion" stationery. Addressed to her friend, Mrs. A. A. Wilson, thanking her for her gifts to the Cleveland children. The letter reads in full:

"As usual you have given the children so much pleasure, and I thank you, and they do themselves. It has been a lovely Easter for them. They are looking forward to hunting the Easter Eggs which the White Bunny told Jenny about just before dinner. I know you miss your boys today. I hope you have good news of them all. You must drive out to see us. There are few afternoons when we are not here. With love and many thanks."

The letter is accompanied by the original envelope and both are mounted with archival tape to a larger card. With mail folds and light soiling. Boldly signed. There is a small 1" tear at the right edge of page 3 above the signature. Usual wear to the envelope.

Frances Cleveland (1864-1947) married President Grover Cleveland during his first term; he was 49 and she was 21, making her the youngest wife of a sitting president. As a bright and attractive young woman, she immediately gained the attention of the press and the public, and advertisers frequently used her image to help sell their products.
