Description:

Set of 5 Books, Bound in Vellum, Various Dates C. 16th + 17th Century, Text in Latin

An outstanding set of scarce titles, each bound in vellum. However, please note, we are not versed in Latin text, so please use the numerous images in addition to the descriptions below to assist in determining the book titles, and dates. In addition, most of these books are exceedingly scarce and full knowledge of whether a page may be missing would be difficult to ascertain:

1. Lucius Florus. Bound in Vellum, 4" x 6.5". Contains the bookplate of collector Henri Tardivi. The front paste down has hand written text in French which translates to "Supplementary copy from the Library of the duc d'Amale, given by the Prince to M. Bachalin, with other works. See the cachet seal at the end and at the beginning.". Possibly dated 1521. Appears to be lacking the title page. 68 pages. The spine appears to have been glued to the vellum. Red speckled outer page block. Pages lightly toned, generally clean. The rear paste down is lifting.

2. Q. Cvrtii Rufi (Qunitis Curtius Rufus), Historiarum libri accuratissime editi. Alexander Magnus, RARE FIRST ELZEVIER EDITION., 1633. Bound in vellum, 5.25" x 3.25". The vellum shows original external stitching but the body of the book may have been glued to the spine of the case as it is an extremely tight binding. The vellum is stiffened and with age. Engraved frontis; folding map; engraved portrait. Index to back of book. A Scarce title. Alexander (356-323 B.C. ) the king of Macedonia, is considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. He devoted himself early to invading & conquering the Persian Empire and other parts of Asia which had been a part of his inheritance, liberated the Greek cities there, occupied Phoenicia, Palestine and Egypt, and in his greatest military achievement, captured the city of Tyre, from which time Persia ceased to be a military power. He is the first king to be called "the Great". Complete as issued. A classic work.

3.Velleius Paterculus,C., (Historiae Romanae libri II) cum animadversionibus. We believe this to do dated from 1592.This appears to be two volumes. Internally heavily annotated , although we are unclear of the language used. Bound in Vellum 4.5" x 6.75". The vellum is stiff and warped, however the spine does not appear glued and the book opens well. Pages with expected age toning.

4. Libro Primero De Los Secretos Del Reuerendo don Alexo Piamontes, with Segunda De Los Secretos. 281 pages plus table of contents to the back. Circa 1640. Bound in Vellum, pages age toned, occasional annotations.

5. Strena Piorum Sive Incitationes; AD S Acros Anctum Nomen, IESV. A smaller pocket size book bound in Vellum, 2.5" x 4".  The vellum spine is cracked with some loss, the vellum is stiff and warped. The body of the book appears to be glued down. Please see images for determination of the book.

An interesting very early set of extremely rare titles .
