Sigmund Freud (1856-1939). Autograph Letter Signed, “Freud”, in German, 1p, 6" x 7.5", Vienna, May 20, 1927. With an export certificate in French. Expected central horizontal mailing fold touching top of signature. Staple holes at top right. Light soiling and toning. In near fine condition.
Freud's letter to Dr. Paul Federn reads: "Please reply to this letter of my patient properly in your capacity as my representative."
Of the Viennese disciples, Austrian-American psychologist Paul Federn (1871-1950) worked longest with Freud and was highly esteemed by him. Federn was such a loyal supporter of Freud that he was referred to as "Apostle Paul". His position within the Psychoanalytic Society continued to grow over the years, but his most important source of official recognition came from Freud himself, who, in 1924, made Federn his official representative, as evidenced in the here offered letter.
