Dr. Seuss Original Drawing with Impeccable Provenance, Scarce Presentation Piece


Spectacular drawing rendered by Dr. Seuss in colored pencils, with ink titles, 15" X 12", adhered to board and matted with a 3" beige mat to a completed size of 20.5" x 17.5". Page with light toning and slight puckering. The artwork covers the entire sheet. Two hanging holes flank the left and right mat edge. Verso with an autograph letter signed by Dr. Seuss. The artwork depicts a colorful pair of winged Griffins, each carrying a suitcase in their talons, soaring through the air in a classic Seussian style. Below the soaring Griffins Dr. Seuss sketched the ocean below and clouds above. The piece is an adorable play on words as it was drawn by Dr. Seuss and presented to the Griffin family.


PROVENANCE:
This piece was gifted to the Griffin family by Dr. Seuss. Paul Griffin's father and Dr. Seuss were classmates at Dartmouth, with numerous correspondences extent between Paul, Dr. Seuss and Claudia Prescott, Dr. Seuss's secretary. The verso of this piece includes a sheet of signed and autographed Dr. Seuss stationary "Hi Paul / It was a pleasure! / All the best always / to ALL GRIFFINS! / Ted".

An exceptionally stunning piece by Dr. Seuss with highly documented provenance. Original full color drawings by Dr. Seuss are exceedingly scarce.

** Most all of original artwork by Dr. Seuss is held in museums leaving very little of his original artwork available for private purchase, and almost none available with quality provenance.

We do our own in-house worldwide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses who proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice, unless you inform us otherwise, immediately upon your receipt of invoice***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
