David Livingstone Superb Signature, PSA/DNA Slabbed & Graded NM-MT 8
A paper slip signed by David Livingstone (1813-1873), the celebrated doctor, missionary, and explorer, as "David Livingstone" at center. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA graded NM-MT 8. Expected wear including paper folds, a former collector's pencil inscription at the lower right, and light stains recto corresponding to traces of adhesive found verso, else very good, the clipped signature measuring 4" x 2." The slab measures 7.125" x 4.25."
David Livingstone first became interested in medical missionary work in his early 20s, studying in London, Glasgow, and Essex to become certified. Livingstone would spend extended periods of time over the next three decades In Africa. While there, he learned local languages, explored and charted the landscape, attempted to convert indigenous populations, and brought worldwide attention to problems inherent to the slave trade and colonization.
