Benjamin Disraeli Unique & Lengthy Archive of 31 Letters, Ca. 1833-1858

A wonderful group of thirty-one letters, written and signed by British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli over the span of twenty-five years. Letters date from circa 1833 to 1858 and are addressed to a wide array of recipients and cover a vast span of topics, ranging from everyday issues to political matters. A sampling of the included letters is as follows:

1. June 14, 1849, written at Grosvenor Gate. 3pp autograph letter signed as "B.Disraeli" and addressed to Sir William Molesworth. Expressing his thanks for Molesworth's contributions to his library.
2. June 27, 1845, written at Grosvenor Gate. 4pp autograph letter signed as "B.Disraeli" and addressed to an unnamed recipient, requesting him to play a concert at an upcoming Review.
3. March 19, 1828, written at Bloomsbury Square. 2pp autograph letter signed "B.Disraeli" and addressed to T.J. Pettigrew. Stating that he is too sick to go into society at the moment.
4. July 23, 1852, written at Grosvenor Gate. 4pp autograph letter signed as "D" and addressed to Lord Chancellor. On mourning stationery, recommending Reverend Augustus Pyne for patronage.
5. May 14, 1853, written at Grosvenor Gate. 9pp autograph letter signed as "D" and addressed to the Marquis of Londondery, explaining how his absence from the House of Commons resulted in an unfavorable motion being passed.
6. April 11, 1858, written at Windsor Castle. 7pp autograph letter signed as "D" and addressed to Dorothy. Thanking her for a gift of strawberries and providing news of the esteemed guests at the castle.
7. November 1, 1852, written at 10 Downing Street. 4pp autograph letter signed as "D" and addressed to the Earl of Lonsdale. On mourning stationery, informing him of a clerkship vacancy.
8. March 2, 1853, written at Grosvenor Gate. 3pp autograph letter signed as "B.Disraeli" and addressed to Thomas Sansom. Stating that he will be unable to attend a Royal invitation.
9. March 15, 1843, written from London. 2pp document signed "B.Disraeli". An itemized inventory and signed agreement to let a stable and coach house from Lady Ann Scott.
10. April 5, 1854, written at Gosvenor Gate. 4pp autograph letter signed as "D" to Hon. Patrick Talbot, regarding organization and command of the Army.
11. September 30, 1858, written at Hughenden Manor. 2pp autograph letter signed as "D" and addressed to B.S. Wright Esq. Regards a public and private discussion of matters, including Parliamentary Reform.

A unique and extensive snapshot of twenty-five years of Disraeli's life, prior to becoming Prime Minister. All of the letters have flattened mail folds. Some have retained their original transmittal envelopes. Varying degrees of soiling, toning, and separations. All of Disraeli's signatures are clear and bold.

Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) was elected to the House of Commons in 1837, serving the constituency of Maidstone. He later secured a Tory seat for Shrewsbury in 1841. He first held the office of Prime Minister from February 1868 to December 1868, and again from February 1874 to April 1880.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice, unless you inform us otherwise, immediately upon your receipt of invoice***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
