Historical Background:

On August 9, 1814, the day before he signed this document, Major General Andrew Jackson concluded the Treaty of Fort Jackson with the Creeks. Signed at Fort Jackson near Wetumpka, Alabama, the treaty came as a result of Jackson’s defeat of the Red Stick (Upper Creek) on March 27 at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.

By the terms of the treaty, the Creek ceded 23 million acres of land, including much of the southern fifth of Georgia and nearly half of the state of Alabama, to the United States government. After this definitive victory over and treaty with the Creek, Jackson continued southwest to Louisiana, where five months later, he scored a decisive victory over British forces in the Battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815.

This payment for 90 days of service seems to have been made to a Cherokee, Choctaw, or Lower Creek allied with the American forces who served as a Mounted Ranger.
