Description:

Alternative & Fringe Party Campaign Pinbacks & Memorabilia, 110+ Pcs, Ca. 1940-1996

A colorful collection of over 110 pieces of campaign memorabilia dedicated to mostly alternative or fringe American political party presidential candidates, ca. 1940-1996. Including memorabilia from the American Independent Party; American Third Party; Communist Party; Labor Party; Peace & Freedom Party; Peace on Earth Party; Progressive Party; Prohibition Party; Socialist Labor Party; Socialist Workers Party; Theocratic Party, and others. Pieces include pinback buttons and jugates as well as lapel pins. Displayed in an aesthetically pleasing montage on a black felt-covered mat measuring 24.375" x 16.5". The lot comes with an optional wooden and glass showcase behind which the mat was originally displayed. There are many gems in this completely unpicked collection waiting to be discovered! Provenance: From the lifelong collection of a Greenwich, Connecticut gentleman.

This lot demonstrates the extent to which minor American political parties thrived during the twentieth century, side by side with mainstream parties like the Republican, Democratic, and Independent. Unconventional candidates included blacks; females; Jehovah's Witnesses; evangelist preachers; pacifists; businessmen; career politicians; activists; ex-generals; and even future Supreme Court Justices! Expected wear throughout commensurate with age including isolated fading, else near fine.
