Hon: Wm Thomas

Yours as ever.
Lincoln had worked on a legal case, Dorman v. Lane, which involved the sale of real estate in Shawneetown to cover a debt. A Shawneetown lawyer had contacted Lincoln to take the case to the Supreme Court in 1842, and as payment, Lincoln received a mortgage to 160 acres near Shawneetown, which he then sold in April of 1853. It is likely that this matter to which Lincoln refers to in his letter to Thomas. The ALS is featured in "The Papers of Abraham Lincoln."
